What is the best thing that I love about my work? I like to work in small size, painting like a miniaturist, I can have all the world on my desk 🙂 I arrange my schedule to my needs and I’m my own boss, what more could I want
What is my idea of perfect happiness? To wake up early in the morning and sit at my drawing table, drawing and painting is my favourite pastime. After work I love to take my bicycle for a ride or spend time with my family.
What is my greatest fear? Not being able to meet my goals and deadlines.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Being sometimes too demanding with myself and with my family.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? The artists Milton Glaser and David Hockney.
What is my greatest extravagance? Having lemon juice icicles.
On what occasion would I lie? When a lie would make another person feel better.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Having too much pressure and clients changing their mind various times during the working process.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? In 1988 in New York, when I was awarded a silver medal by the Society of Illustrators. That was when I realized I may be an illustrator all my life. Soon after that I got engaged with Laura my future wife.
If I could, what would I change about myself? The hair!
What is my greatest achievement in work? A stamp issue designed for the british Royal Mail, printed in more then 200 million pieces.
What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? The awareness that every day is precious and I’m very luck to spend it doing what I love.
Where would I most like to live? In a small house, in a small town with a small garden.
What is my most treasured possession? My family and their love.
What is my most marked characteristic? I’m serious, if a bit boring (says my wife), polite and I like to help others.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The cloister of the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, next to the building with Leonardo’s Last Supper.A very quiet and charming place in contrast with the noisy and bursting city outside
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? Sitting on a bench eating a sandwich and drinking tap water from the little fountain (fontanella) at the neighbourhood park nearby.
What books influenced my life and how?-“If this is a Man” (Se questo è un Uomo) by Primo Levi, ” A Man” (Un uomo) by Oriana Fallaci and Anne Frank’s Diary. These three books make me remember that I do have a very lucky life and nothing is for granted.
Who are my favorite writers? Cesare Pavese, Carlo Cassola, Primo Levi, Joseph Roth, Arthur Schnitzler, Georges Simenon …
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? The sound of swallows flying through the air, calling at each other in a bright sunny summer day.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Homer’s Ulysses.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Men and women that help suffering people, putting their own life at risk doing so.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? “Andrei Rublev” by Andrei Tarkovsky, a 1966 russian movie, a true masterpiece!
What role plays art in my life and work? A big one, I paint and draw most of my day and I like to go to museums and art exhibitions to get inspired by other artists’ work.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Laura Francesca Filippucci my wife and companion for the last 30 years. She is a very talented artist as well and now also a writer.
Whom would I like to work with in 2019? A new client, making new stamp and coin design.
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019? Some of the art directors and clients I worked for in the last few years, I’ve never had the chance to meet  them in person.
What project, in 2019, am I looking forward to work on? Maybe planning a solo exhibition of my illustration paintings and drawings, a long time dream not yet realized.
