The Hero’s Journey of Andrea Cavaletto

What is the best thing that I love about my work?
Writing apparently fiction stories, I can analyze from the point of view of my characters the world in which I live, my fears and the topics that I’m interested into about society that surrounds me.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?
I don’t believe in happiness, and I don’t even pursue it. I look for a state of well-being that gives me the right balance. In a state of well-being and balance you can always welcome moments of happiness and face difficult situations.

What is my greatest fear?
I have lots of fears, but I try to keep them under control. My biggest fear is to suffer without hope of salvation.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
The insane desire to be the hero I’m not.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?
A long list actually, but as I get to know them, I stop admiring many of them.

What is my greatest extravagance?
I write extremely violent stories, but I have a tender and sensitive soul.

On what occasion would I lie?
I lie all the time. Even now.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
The ignorant and arrogant people unfortunately sometimes I have to deal with: colleagues, supervisors and sometimes even readers.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
When I’ve been told I was going to write stories for my all-time favorite character, Dylan Dog, published by Sergio Bonelli Editore in Italy and ’round the world.

If I could, what would I change about myself?
I’m constantly changing, like everyone else. The big thing is to know how to look inward, understanding the changes and staying in the flow. That way, there’s nothing I’d like to change.

What is my greatest achievement in work?
I don’t care about commercial success. I prefer emotions. So I would say that my biggest success at the moment is my first creator-owned comic book series, Paranoid Boyd.
