What is the best thing that I love about my work?

I have the freedom to research my own questions and engage an audience with it when I present them as a story.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

Perfect happines doesn’t exist in my opinion. My idea of happiness is to enjoy being in the very moment itself.

What is my greatest fear?

I think my greatest fear is to lose my freedom.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I worry too much about too many things.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

That’s difficult. I admire great film talents such as Paul Thomas Anderson and Paolo Sorrentino in the way they are great storytellers and use every aspect of film to perfection to reach that level of involvement with the viewer. In the same way I admire a game developer such as the Polish CD Project Red and Rockstar.

What is my greatest extravagance?

Having a lot of smart-bulbs in my house. I’m a bit too obsessed with lights.

On what occasion would I lie?

Integrity is very important to me.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Many people in my field where it seems to be about status. With a number of people it stands in the way of pleasant cooperation. In addition, there is also a tendency to think primarily economically and practically, while my starting point is to put more value on other aspects of life.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

I made some short films with a friend. With one of our short films we had the time and the chance to experiment a lot. We have been working on it for 5 years. I have good memories of this period.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

Sometimes I’m a bit too serious.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

A few years ago I worked as a creative director on a world tour of a famous DJ. It is that I realized that the small creative projects where I can experiment are more important to me. Ultimately, my greatest achievement is that I have inspired some people with my work.

Where would I most like to live?

A quiet place with lots of nature and where it rains less than in the Netherlands.

What is my most treasured possession?

My fantasy and harddrives.

What is my most marked characteristic?

I’m honest. I say what I think. I’d rather say nothing instead of being very diplomatic.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

I just moved from Rotterdam to the east of The Netherlands. The most inspiring places for me are on the river ‘Maas’. Like around the ‘Erasmusbrug’ and the quit places at the riversides.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

In Rotterdam it is “Cinerama”. It is a nice old movie theater. You can only drink something there.

What books influenced my life and how?

It was mainly youth books that have influenced my life. Books from Dutch writers such as Jan Terlouw and Tonke Dragt ‘Secrets of the Wild Forest’ for example. “Krabat” by Otfried Preussler was my first trigger to become a film maker. “The Alchemist” by Paul Coelho confirmed things that I doubted myself. It broadened my view of life by relying more on my intuition. Orson Welles “1984”. The Eurasian universe sometimes seems uncomfortably close.

Who are my favorite writers?

Paul Coelho, Haruki Murakami, Tonke Dragt, John Vermeulen and Steven Hawking.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

Silence. I don’t prefer to listen to any music on my last day. I don’t want to know that it is my last day.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

Gerald of Rivia. He is the main character of The Witcher. A story in the form of a novel, videogame series and television series. For him, monsters and politics are the same.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

Democritus van Abdera, Leonardo Da Vinci, Carl Jung, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger, Paul Dirac, Max Planck, Rosto AD and Hayao Miyazaki.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

It is a difficult choice. More brilliant films have been made that are worth mentioning. Donny Darko. (Richard Kelly). 18 years after it’s release it’s tone and feel is still very unique. The film doesn’t explain too much. The viewer can draw conclusions for himself.

What role plays art in my life and work?

I think more in images than in text. That already draws me to art. It is the primary urge for peace, beauty and harmony. Art also plays that role in my life and work.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

At this moment I don’t have a partner in crime.

Whom would I like to work with in 2019/2020?

Ferdy Karto. A friend of mine. He has the ability to inspire a lot of people with his music and creativity.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019/2020?

Darren Aronofsky and Paolo Sorrentino.

What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on?

I’m looking forward to work on my own films. I have an animation short and a feature film-treatment to work on.
