Know Your Own Story in One Day

Know Your Own Story in One Day

Self Knowledge is often what stands between us and greater fulfillment: between a relationship that will bring us joy, a job that motivates us each morning, or a wiser approach to an recurring problem. In fact, when asked about the key to wisdom, the famous writer Isabel Allende responded ‘You are the storyteller of your own life. You can can create your own Legend – or Not!

While we all have some ideas about who we are, the knowledge we have is often patchy, and we have few opportunities to be guided in reflecting on our personality traits. This day long festival of ideas, exercises and interactive sessions will help us to explore what truly interests, motivates and excites us, as well as what lies behind some of our most important fears, anxieties, and private sorrows. We’ll have the chance to learn the best ideas in history related to emotional intelligence, to reflect individually on how these connect to our own life, and to discuss and share our thoughts and learnings with others through interactive exercises.

In the morning of the event, we’ll consider the problem of knowing our own stories, as well as some solutions to discover our own story. We’ll then learn some ways to learn more about ourselves (and others) through asking good questions. In the afternoon, we’ll consider our aspirations and come to understand them better through the lens of failure. And finally, we’ll consider the meaning of life and where the meaning lies for us individually in telling own stories.

At our one-day festival you will not be taught in entirely standard ways. Peter de Kuster doesn’t merely lecture to a passive audience; he invites almost continuous interaction, inviting participants to look inside themselves, to complete a variety of story discovery  exercises and to share their stories with others.

Our one-day festival is highly interactive, with mixed lecture and exercises. You’ll be asked to reflect deeply, to complete a variety of story discovery exercises, and to share your stories with others. There will be stories in films, art, literature, music, and visual prompts to stimulate the mind and provide examples of the story topics under discussion. In addition, there will be social breaks where we will be guided to discussion on meaningful topics in smaller groups. It is impossible to leave without making at least one friend.

Know Your Own Story in One Day is ideal for anyone looking to spend a focussed, yet social day exploring and understanding themselves in one of The Hero’s Journey four cornerstone topic areas: Your Own Story.

The day will include:

  • A rich programme drawing from the key insights across our core curriculum

  • A keynote session with founder Peter de Kuster exploring how we can grow the Power of our Story and increase our self-knowledge
