The Hero’s Journey of Mike Corr

What is the best thing that I love about my work?
I love the variety of the situations I’m exposed to through my work. I’ve performed in the UK’s best theatres, olympic stadiums, cruise ships, children’s parties, nightclubs, adult fetish events and so on. All with the same set of skills – it goes to show how universal circus is – no matter who or where you are.
What is my idea of perfect happiness?
I think happiness comes from a greater understanding of your ‘self’, eliminating negative thoughts and radiating positive energy. It’s seems like a long process to get there though.
What is my greatest fear?
Dying? Being alone? Heights? I have loads of fears but couldn’t pinpoint my greatest one.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
Being lazy.
What is my greatest extravagance?
I don’t really spend extravagantly, I am keen on saving at the moment and putting money into my company and future.
On what occasion would I lie?
To protect myself and others? Or just to avoid an uncomfortable situation aha, depends on the gravity of the lie and the circumstance.
What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life?
I’ve always had role models that change with the times and with what I am focusing towards. I don’t idolise anyone but I have huge admiration for certain qualities in people and/or people’s technical abilities. I constantly strive to change myself for the better so when I see a quality I like in someone else I will aim to ‘be like them’ in that respect.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
I have long limbs and look a bit clunky, I’d like to look a bit more elegant.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
Probably lying on a sun chair by the pool on a 5* cruise sipping coffee and eating cakes while drifting through the Indian ocean – wondering how many other people were having such a nice day at work.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
My mindset and general mentality towards a lot of things. Eliminate stress, fear, doubt and what not.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
Not sure, I’ve done lots of things I never thought I’d do. Performing live in front of 40,000 people, being on tv, performing in the Royal Albert Hall were all pretty big for me but I think of everything new as a big achievement.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
The circus training centre, NCCA. Watching everyone train and do their thing makes it the most inspiring place for me. Or a theatre when a really good show is on, even my room watching something on Youtube – Inspiration is everywhere…
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
I like Vietnamese food and there are some good places in Hoxton. But I don’t eat out too much, ‘Wasabi’ is also nice. Drinks wise I prefer to be at a house, not a fan of nightlife, drinks cost £££ in London too.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
Probably my girlfriend – Joana. We work together a lot which always makes jobs way more of a fun experience.
Whom would I like to work with in the future?
My friends that I trained with at circus school. Jobs are always so much more enjoyable when it’s with old friends.
What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on?
I look forward to all my upcoming projects; Performing shows with Upswing over the next few weeks which is always fun, then going to France for 3 weeks of R&D with Stufish productions – that should be a great opportunity to explore creatively and have dedicated time to learn some new tricks which I’m excited for.
