The Hero’s Journey of Dick Carlier

Dick Carlier or Carlierphotography

Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and I come from a very creative family.

I’m an interior-designer by profession and a freelance self-taught photographer. Photographer with subjects like portaits, urbex, interior, architecture, travels and more. Don’t like to stick to one subject.

Love adventure, love to visit new places, find and enjoy the beauty of certain places or events.

I now am a freelance photographer specialized in interior- and exterior-photography, which brought me to cool places in Austria, Southern France, Belgium and the Netherlands the last few years. Also I work together with Bab’s Artcreations as her photographer to take photos to be used for her artworks.

I also sometimes model at photoshoots and work in films, tv-series and commercials.

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

Mostly the adventure, the places you get to visit the interiors you get to style and take photos of and also meeting the people behind it and hear their stories. Also after you deliver the photo’s it is so nice to hear the response after they see the results, which gives you a good feeling you have done something good.

With interior-photography also styling is needed, to make the place attractive for photo, my former job is interior design so I love to do that too.

Or style studio photosets for portrait shoots or events, also a very nice challenge to find the right items to create something cool.

For my designs I also used to design products and talk to producers to try to get them produced or get them interested to buy the design / idea.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

To enjoy life, make the best of it stay positive no matter what life throws at you.

And if things don’t come your way it wasn’t meant to be.

What is my greatest fear?

To see all the things you have created or worked for in the past slip through your fingers because of bad luck. And of course to see the ones you love to get hurt in love, friendship or disease.

Also I have too many ideas but not always the right skills to make or create what I want.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

Sometimes I need to show more balls to get things achieved or get somewhere I want to be. I’m sometimes way to nice and people use your goodness.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I love to surprise people whether it is in photography or costumes / appearance at events.

On what occasion would I lie?

I don’t like to lie, I did in the past and it always works against you. Sometimes I rather just don’t tell everything and leave some information out, which works just fine.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Sometimes in photowork you have so many photos to edit that you struggle to work your way through it. Sometimes your mind wants you to do other things. So it’s hard to focus and finish certain projects.

Also classical music is something I would love to hear like Yo-Yo Ma or Secret Garden.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
