The Hero’s Journey of Jerome Alexandre

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The best thing about my work is being fortunate that it’s a medium that I’m comfortable with and I’m aware that I’m competent to execute my ideas in a way that’s meaningful to me and our audience alike.I did everything I could to get kicked out of secondary school because even then I knew that music was the only thing I was good at  and it was what I was put on earth to do.By 19 I’d played the Astoria so that was a validation for me to carry on.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Its a variety of things ,Sometimes it’s being around the Ones I love, sometimes it’s collaborating artistically with people I thought I could never ever get the chance to collaborate with,Writing or performing a great song -other times its being alone and enjoying the quiet and calm or walking in the woods at night .

What is my greatest fear? Being trapped, I’m very claustrophobic so being stuck and not being able to move or a never ending anxiety that lasts forever.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? There are many ! I hate speaking my mind out loud -I do it far too often and reveal way too much as a result which leaves me feeling vulnerable , I hate that I can’t control my anxiety too.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? Well we would be here all night if I had to write that ( most of em are dead!) but I do like people no matter what genre of music who aren’t afraid to push boundaries ,equally I admire-Architects, Scientists,Doctors,Philosophers,Writers, Film Directors etc anyone who has great ideas and manifests their destiny and doesn’t give up till they do.

What is my greatest extravagance? For now? A brief piece of mind .Or accomplishment.

On what occasion would I lie? It wasn’t so much a lie as Protection, basically I had to,protect my poor mother from the truth of my intention to smuggle myself into a country without a passport .Which I did successfully without being caught.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Its not really anything to do with the work per se, it’s more to do with all the waiting around , attitudes or worse when someone promises to do something and doesn’t deliver.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? Last summer was very exciting – when we weren’t recording we were in the road , and we got to record with a couple of people that I’m a massive fan of their work .People like Flatbush Zombies,.Kane Groceries and Marcy Mane of Goth Money.John Perry of The Only ones.A high and a validation that can’t be matched.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would straighten my nose so I could breathe, Get rid of all my anxiety , be more healthy and get my six pack back.Be a person that sleeps well and who is less angry.

What is my greatest achievement in work? There are many,I’ve had a certain degree of luck- Deadcuts second album “A Hit On All Sixes” I’m very proud of that record. Also our Collaboration’s with Flatbush Zombies and Goth Money , the Track with Flatbush Zombies entitled ” Aries” was made for the Marvel Comics Black Panther series and has had over a quarter of a million hits on YouTube alone.Playing “People” with Boyd Rice live was incredible too.

What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? Ha! Total freedom! It’s a rare thing these days , money and great ideas can alchemically conjure amazing shit.Like if you’ve a great song and you can afford to pay your favourite director to shoot your video then it’s going to be great art.If you can use money to help your live show be that much better by hiring a team to make it better then that’s another way.

Where would I most like to live? I lived in Barnes for seven years , it was the most peaceful serene beautiful area in the south west of London. You felt like you were in the country.I’d move there again undoubtedly and have a place in NY too.

What is my most treasured possession? My guitars and pedals.I just recently got left a very rare Gibson Gold Top in a friends will who sadly passed away this year of cancer.

What is my most marked characteristic? Ive been told it’s my communication skills – Being able to communicate of anyone one on any level.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? There’s a few, my old living room in Barnes (Looked like an old ritual chamber -Nina Antonia the author resides there with another author Sandy Robertson), Mark Keds’s (my singer /co writer )house in Whitechapel and my little bedroom south London basement flat   in which I now live.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? I prefer to dine indoors.

What books influenced my life and how? I don’t think any have influenced my life , they’ve mirrored them though “from the dust returned ” is a book about a vampire who awakens in a sterile age in which culture and other values cease.Burroughs’s “Junkie” mirrors my late teens to mid twenties as does Jim Carroll’s “Basketball diaries” and  Alexander  Trocchi’s “Cains Book” .Anthony Burgess’s “Clockwork Orange ” and Blanche Barton’s ” Secret Diary of a Satanist ” (About Occultist Anton Lavey).

Who are my favorite writers? Boyd Rice, MR James, Alexander Trocchi, William Burroughs, Jim Carrol,Gabrielle d Annunzio, Rimbaud, Verlaine , Baudelaire,Edgar Allen Poe, Bram Stoker, Aliester Crowley, Anton Lavey,Jack London, Ray Bradbury,Nina Antonia , Huysmans, Nikolas Schreck, Jean Genet, Schopenhaur. Colin Wilson, Iceberg Slim, Lenny Bruce , Goethe and many more…

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? As many albums as I can haha!

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? The Vampire in Ray Bradbury’s “From the dust returned” , Alex Da Large in “Clockwork Orange” , The Demon/Angel in Mark Twains ” The Mysterious Stranger” and a cute Arabian Mongoose in Clare Kipps “Sold For a Song” .

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Hmmm…lemme think, The staff at lewisham hospital and Andy Clark

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? “Drugstore Cowboy” Gus Van Sant, ,”Blood of a Poet” Jean Cocteau , “Donnie Darko”  , “Boys in the Hood”  ,  Every movie by Kenneth Anger ,or David Lynch,Cannibal the Musical”  ,”Downfall” , “Charles Manson Superstar”  ,”Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Tenant ” by Roman Polanski, “Perfume” , “Young Frankenstein” ,”Dig “by Ondi Timoner, “Looking for Johnny” by Danny Garcia-and so many more!

What role plays art in my life and work? The role ultimately remains the same -the rock n roll madman obsessed with all that’s hidden -I’d like to play more roles given a chance

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My greatest fan ….hmmmm probably a gentleman I’ve met who knows every song my groups done even unreleased stuff! His name is Mark Dans Le Space.Sponsor would be the willpower within , partners in crime -well I’ve a few..Deadcuts , Andy Clark – My Mother too.

Whom would I like to work with in 2017?  I would like to do more with Flatbush Zombies ,AB Soul would be cool to work with , St Vincent , A$AP Rocky, Douglas P of Death in June  , Goth money ( again) , Nappy Nappa, Gillian Rose Banks , Frank Ocean, Lady Gaga, FKA Twigs ,PJ Harvey, Katie Jane Garside (which looks probable) , Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke and Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre.

What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work on? Their are many -I have a solo album I’ve started on, Deadcuts are recording ideas for album three plus ideas we have with rappers. And Boyd Rice has asked me to record some guitars on his next album.

Where can you see me or my work in 2017? Well Deadcuts have just come off tour -so if you have a time machine Scotland, Manchester,Hull , Paris, Le Havre, Nottingham,London, Ramsgate , Leeds ..oh we have a show coming up with the recently reunited “Crisis”  (Death in June’s former band) in Guildford in October .Plus some others were waiting confirmation on.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? Well I think it means that there’s never a day or second off when it comes to passion, it can drive you fucking mad though -there’s a moment in the biopic on Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys where he’s at The Dinner table and  the rattling of the Cutlery starts to become a Rythym in his mind and drives him insane .Im wide awake -the time is now 5.42 am  and that’s because I can’t stop thinking about all I’d like to do.This is why so many creative people use drugs -to shut their brain off for a while .Also its like a surge -someone’s hooked you up to the power source and Passion can burn you to death.Proceed with Caution people !

Which creative heroes should Peter invite to tell their story? How can you contact me? My singer co writer Mark Keds, any of the talented people I’ve listed -Try Adam Espira he’s a great artist , Jason Atomic and his wife Manko, Andy Clark, Lou Smith who has shot videos of us , Fat White Family and many more, Diabolus Rex who has invented the “Ragnarok Engine” , Kane Groceries -Marcy Mane -oh the list is endless!
