The Hero’s Journey of Anton- Constantin Anastassov

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love being able to materialize the things that I imagine in my mind. When an idea appears of a picture, in my head, I start making it and see how it is turning into exactly what I imagined, that moment is what I love about my work!

What is my idea of perfect happiness? As much as we pretend to be happy, we realize that the world is not so wonderful. There are many unfair and cruel things. To me the perfect happiness does not exist in this world, because it is made in a way that happiness depends on unhappiness, the only way to feel the good is to have experienced the bad. The only real state of happiness is to be neutral and free, in a state of inner balance, which is not easy to achieve in life.

What is my greatest fear? Perhaps one of my biggest fears is to see how the ones I love die before me.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? The trait that I most deplore in myself the most is overthinking which makes me doubtful, anxious and sometimes people do not understand me because of that.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?  I admire the artist Agim Meta but most of the contemporary artists that I like are not very famous. However, I really feel close to the essence of the works of the following artists: Karen A.Carter, James Flaxman, Liya Zakirah/Alexandre Rigaut,Miroslav Pecho, Justell Vonk, Magister Ludi, Glenn Brady, Ryan Nieves, Ulf Nylin, Aleksandra Lata and many others!

What is my greatest extravagance? I love storms and the rain, and I like to walk outside when there is a thunderstorm. I feel as if the tempest is giving me power.

On what occasion would I lie? People lie all the time. Maybe I would lie so that I do not hurt someone else. I wonder what is more important: living in a complacent delusion or in a cold and burning truth? Is anything real?

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Sometimes I dislike everything in almost all of my work because it doesn’t look perfect enough for me.
But then after some time, this feeling changes, usually. I always try to improve.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? As I answered above, I am the most happy in my work when I see that everything that I envisioned is being realized, as I am drawing near the sea side.

If I could, what would I change about myself? Sometimes I want to change everything, sometimes I want to change nothing, it depends on my mood.

What is my greatest achievement in work? I believe my greatest achievement is when the people who have bought my paintings tell me that they are happy every time they see them. Some people have told me they cannot keep their eyes away from my art, and I think that’s also a big achievement.

What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? These words represent a seemingly impossible dream which could make the world a better place, if only it was real.

Where would I most like to live? It doesn’t matter to me where I live, because what matters is what’s inside your mind.  But I like the way people live in the Nordic countries.

What is my most treasured possession? I have amulets given by my mother who mean a lot to me. My cat if it counts as a possession? Maybe I am the possession of my cat.

What is my most marked characteristic? I think my most marked characteristic probably is the fact that I am really fascinated by the mysterious, weird and darker side of this universe.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The park named “The garden of King Boris” is my most inspiration location, in my city. But I like to draw most in the mountains or near the sea which are not very far from where I live.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? There are a lot of places that I like to eat and drink, in my city, because there are a lot of good restaurants with gardens and tasty food. I don’t think there is a specific place that I want to mention, though.

What books influenced my life and how? The books that have influenced my life are Coraline by Neil Geilman, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and IT by Stephen King. All of them have influenced my life because of their mystical atmosphere and the incredible mastery of the writers.

Who are my favorite writers? My favorite writers are Neil Geilman, Lewis Carroll, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams and many others.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I would listen to ambient music, such as the one made by Aphex Twin and from games like Cry Of Fear, Silent Hill and Alice: Madness Returns. I think this music is calming and beautiful, and I like to listen to it before I go to sleep.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I do not have a hero or heroine but my favourite fiction character, who was my idol when I was a child, is Orochimaru from Naruto. I will truly never ever forget him, even though I first saw him 10 years ago. He is my favorite character because I think the way he is drawn and represented in the anime and manga is truly fantastic and powerful!

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? I do not believe that in real life, heroes and heroines exist. All humans have within them both good and evil, but I admire those who are able to defend the weak despite everything.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I would recommend seeing the movie Coraline or The Ring (2002) once in a lifetime.  These two are probably my most favorite movies, I think they are perfectly done, and I’ve watched them multiple times.

What role plays art in my life and work? Art is my life and work.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My mother is my best friend in life. But the person that has helped me for now the most is Enil Enchev who is an artist, and curator, responsible for two successful exhibitions of mine.

Whom would I like to work with in 2017? Firstly, I would always like to work again with Enil Enchev and Rem Michalski, video game developer, in some way. Second, I would be happy to continue making art for Manuel Lozano and Sky Lesco from Tearful Moon, a band that I did cover art for their new album “Evocation”. A few music creators that I’d love to work with are: Suzi Nyberg (Maquerade), Chase Morledge (This Cold Night), Sally Dige, Joanna Pavlidou (Selofan), Kevin Czarnik (Forever Grey), I really enjoy their music and wish deeply I could make a custom cover art for them. Furthermore, I really wish I could collaborate in some way with another video game developer, who knows about my work, the creator of the horror game “Cry Of Fear”, Andreas Ronnberg.
He says he’s currently creating a new game, and that he might include a level inside of it inspired by my work. Finally, there are many people that I want to work with such as all of the ones I mentioned in the previous questions and many others!

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2017? I wish I could meet all the artists that I said were my favorite living artists a few questions ago.

What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work on? I am currently working on a big board game, I am looking forward to continue working on it, haha. Other things that I am looking forward to doing are bigger and more complicated paintings, creating magical cards, illustrating stories, sculpting, comics, cover art for music bands that I enjoy and everything surrounding the idea of making art.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? They mean that if you are passionate about something, even if you grow old and sick, or don’t get any money from it, you will never stop doing it because it is your passion. This is very true for me.
