The Hero’s Journey in Paris: Discovering the New Map of Men’s Lives
By Peter de Kuster
In my previous Hero’s Journey stories, I mapped the changes we live through from youth to maturity — the passages of passion, ambition, and awakening that define a life well and truly lived. Now, I invite you to walk beside me through one of life’s most intriguing thresholds: the middle years.
Welcome to The Hero’s Journey in Paris, a three‑day walking experience designed for contemporary men standing at their pivotal midlife crossroads. Set in the world’s most reflective city — where beauty and thought flow together — we will explore not only the boulevards of Paris but also the landscapes of your own story.
A Journey for the Second Half of Life
Somewhere around forty, every man hears the quiet, relentless question: Now what?
Work anxieties shift, ambition evolves, bodies change, and intimacy takes on new meanings. Questions of power — professional, physical, relational — begin to press harder. Yet beneath this restlessness lies an extraordinary possibility. Midlife is not decline; it is design. It is the moment to craft the second act of your story with clarity, courage, and style.
In Discovering the New Map of Men’s Lives, I guide you through that design process — turning confusion into curiosity, fatigue into fascination. The great cities of the world often mirror the inner lives of men. And Paris, with its blend of discipline and beauty, logic and longing, becomes our classroom.
What You’ll Experience
Over three days, with no more than ten companion heroes, we’ll walk the streets where creativity, pleasure, and reinvention have flourished for centuries. You’ll rediscover yourself step by step among cafés, parks, and quiet corners where reflection meets conversation.
Day 1 — Departure from the Known
We explore the Left Bank’s beginnings — childhood, career, the old patterns of success. You’ll define the story you have lived so far and identify what no longer serves your growth.
Day 2 — Crossing the Threshold
Through the Marais and the Ile Saint‑Louis, we enter midlife’s mystery. We talk about desire, ambition, love, loss, and the pressure to perform — the “MANopause” that unsettles and renews. Men tell their stories here with honesty and humor.
Day 3 — Return with the Gift
Montmartre becomes the summit — literally and symbolically. You’ll sketch your next chapter: new purpose, evolving relationships, the courage to play again. We close with a shared dinner and reflections on “Your New Story for the Second Half of Life.”
Attending with Your Partner
Many men choose to share this experience with their partner — not to retreat from personal reflection, but to deepen it together.
When you bring your partner, she participates in the full walking and reflection program, joining all conversations that explore relationships, intimacy, and creative reinvention from both perspectives. It often becomes a transformative moment of shared connection and rediscovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this journey suitable for women?
Yes. Although designed primarily for men, several women have joined past editions — either accompanying a partner or exploring their own midlife reinvention within a small, mixed group. The themes of purpose, passion, and renewal resonate universally.
Do I need to be very fit?
Not at all. The walks are moderate, 6 – 8 kilometres per day, at a reflective pace with regular pauses in cafés and parks. It’s a journey of conversation, not competition.
Do I need to share personal stories?
You share only what feels right. The format encourages trust and openness but always respects privacy. Many participants find that simply listening is as powerful as speaking.
Can I extend my stay in Paris?
Absolutely. Many travellers stay one or two extra nights to reflect, write, or explore alone or with their partner. I can recommend hotel and restaurant options to match your style and rhythm.
Is coaching included?
Yes. Each day includes guided reflection and storytelling exercises. The Deluxe Package adds a private one‑hour coaching session (individual or couple) after the journey to anchor what you’ve discovered.
Why Paris?
Because Paris, like midlife, lives between reason and romance. It embraces change with elegance; it knows how to reinvent itself without losing its soul. Walking through its streets, you begin to see that what once felt like loss can transform into liberation.
Hundreds of imaginative men — and couples — have walked this path before, sharing doubts, passions, and fresh hope. Their stories prove that reinvention is not fantasy, but a deeply human act of courage.
Informative and inspiring, grounded in real life and rich with living stories, The Hero’s Journey in Paris: Discovering the New Map of Men’s Lives invites you to rewrite your midlife narrative — to turn transition into transformation.
Paris awaits.
So does the next chapter of your story.
