The Hero’s Journey of Alfonso Gutierrez Manzanos

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

Passion. I cannot understand (my) work without passion. Work is a gift, an opportunity to serve others and key to help ourselves set course to achieve our goals in life.

What is my idea of happiness?

Happiness is when you smile in the morning because the Universe gave you one more day to impact others in a positive way. Happiness is within ourselves… we just need to look inside and believe in ourselves. To make others happy, you must be it first.

What is my greatest fear?

I have no fear. Living in fear is one of the worst things you can do to yourself and to the people around you. Let’s say that mostly all least wanted situations have something to do with suffering of the people I love.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

Deplore is too strong of a word; I’d rather say that I am usually overconfident with others and this has created me a few undesirable situations in the past.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

Not an easy answer since I started as an Architect, then became a Project Manager, then an entrepreneur, and finally a Coach focused on Health and Fitness to help others achieve their best version of themselves.

I have admired architects as Rem Koolhaas for his creativity, or Norman Foster for his exquisite craftmanship, as well as bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger: when he was asked to define his career in one word, he said “dream… I was poor, I had nothing, but I was rich because I had a dream”. Remarkable.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I am not extravagant by nature. I like natural behaviors, simplicity and proximity rather than building a fence around me and my circumstances.

On what occasion would I lie?

I would lie to save suffering to someone I love. Secondly, I’d lie to someone with bad intentions that could be harmful to others.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Administrative paperwork and bureaucracy is, by far, what I like the least. Fortunately, I don’t get to have too much of it.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

In the early years, when I had nothing but hunger for learning. Being a young Architect working for an American company in Hong Kong was such an exciting experience… people from so many different countries sharing similar solutions to the same problems, all in the same spot.

Also, connecting people to create value through businesses, organizations, teams, groups, etc, is quite a fulfilling experience. Helping my clients to fulfill their physical and mindset expectations through my work is a top fulfilling experience.

Being always in time would be great!
