The Hero’s Journey of Giovanni Ariutti

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The best thing that I love about my job is that I can give life to something unanimated and  make the thoughts and fantasies I had from books, stories, songs and similars come true. I like to create actings and give feelings to the characters that would have never felt otherwise. In conclusion I like to bring my ideas to life.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? My personal idea of happiness is workin on a personal project I really like and believe in during the day, then go back home and spending the evening with my friends or just resting at home with no thoughs on my mind. So just something simple.
What is my greatest fear? I have never thought about what my greatest fear is. I think my biggest fear related to my job is to work on a project that doesn’t let me express myself limiting me constantly. Maybe in a place where I can’t get on well with my colleagues
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? The trait I most deplore in myself is the fact that many times I think too much and I’m too much of a perfectionist.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? There are many people I really admire in my profession, but probably the one I admire the most is James Baxter. He is, in my opinion, one of the greatest living animator, I really like the way he animated some of my favourite characters in my favourites animated movies (Rafiki in The Lion King, Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Moses in The Prince of Egypt )
What is my greatest extravagance? My biggest extravagance is that I really like acting. Actually in our job us animators should be a bit of an actor. So, sometimes, I act and play the role of the characters I’m animating, with all my colleagues around me staring at me.
On what occasion would I lie? I think I would lie to prepare a big joke for a friend.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? The things I dislike the most in my work are the days when I can’t find the inspiration and I have to work on a lot of scenes.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? By now the  moment I was the happiest in my work was when I finished my first short clip with my friend and colleague Francesco.
If I could, what would I change about myself? If I could change something about myself this would definitely be my overthinking problem.
What is my greatest achievement in work? I think the best achievement in my work was when I meet and worked for Bruno Bozzetto, one of the most famous names in Italian animation.
What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? “The Financial Freedom to Create” to me,  means that I can work on my personal projects coming from my fantasy during the day and I can chill out during the evening . This is not happening now as I’m working in the office during the day, working on my personal projects during the evening and I have very little time to relax.
Where would I most like to live? If I had to decide where to live, I would choose Italy.
What is my most treasured possession? My most treasured possessions are my books. The novels and the art books of my favourite movies both.
What is my most marked characteristic? I think my most marked characteristic is that I like cartoons so much that sometime I remember the dialogues by heart and I like to quote them in my conversations 

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?  Actually I don’t have any particular inspirational location in my city. I find my inspiration walking or cycling.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? My favourite place to drink and eat is definitely my house.
What books influenced my life and how? A series of books that influenced my life is A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R Martin. I have always been a fan of fantasy stories but what Martin wrote is a perfect mix of fantasy and accurate medieval history. I liked the books so much because of the characters, the way they develop during the story and the events they are involved into. All of this was very inspirational for a personal project I’m actually workin on.
 
Who are my favorite writers? My favourite writers are George R.R. Martin, Robert Louis Stevenson, Valerio Massimo Manfredi and J.R.R. Tolkien.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I think on my last day I would listen :”Do you hear the people sing – Finale” from Les Miserables Soundtrack.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Actually I do not have a favourite fictional hero or heroine in particular. Honestly, I really like anti-heroes those characters who are suffering and look for  redemptionI think like Jean Valjean from “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo and Cyrano de Bergerac from the homonymous teathrical work.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My heroes in real life are definitely my family.  
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? A movie I recommend to see at least once in lifetime is “The Big Kahuna”. A 1999 film shot in a single hotel room with three businessmen played by Kevin Spacey, Danny deVito and Peter Facinelli.  
What role plays art in my life and work? Art plays a great role in my life. I like to do a lot of things, from acting to sing, from dancing to draw and this is something very important and useful for my work.  
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I do not have a single partner in crime right now. My best fans are my friends and my family and each of them is a great partner in crime in is own way.  
Whom would I like to work with in 2019/2020? I wish I could work with James Baxter, concerning animation, and with Giancarlo Giannini ,concerning acting.  
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019/2020?  I’d love to meet Jamex Baxter, Glenn Keane and Nick Ranieri.   
What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on? I wish I could start working on a feature film realized in traditional animation technique.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? The words “Passion Never Retires” means that I will keep drawing and realizing new projects and ideas even when I’m 90.
