The Hero’s Journey of Angel Muro

Hello, my name is Angel and I’m an Illustrator and Concept Artist!

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

How limitless it feels, the perks of being an Illustrator is that you’re able to jump into different types of jobs without ever feeling as if you’re trapped in a career.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

I think at the moment my idea of perfect happiness is being able to have friends (family, and overall relationships), fitness (general health), and finances in harmony with one another.

a good IPA sure helps a good bit though.

What is my greatest fear?

I think my biggest fear is the extent to which I can hold myself back.  There’s usually a solution to external obstacles but it’s pretty incredible how much fear can hold a person back from attempting to learn a new skill, or leaving their comfort zone and trying something new.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

A bit related to the previous question, the trait that I most deplore about myself is how comfortable I can get in the same routine.  I don’t think it’s very healthy in life to be stagnant because you really begin to slow down the experiences that you can learn from.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

Oh man, the list of artists that I admire is absolutely endless.  Off the top of my head I really admire Jeremy Fenske who designs absolutely amazing landscapes, or Bastien Lecouffe Deharme for incredible painting ability, or Gerald Brom, or Tatyana Kupriyanova. Honestly this list would be endless haha

Any art supplies that are related to my craft, I swear I can justify purchasing anything as long as it’s related to my hobby/profession

On what occasion would I lie?

I like to believe that I don’t really lie at all, but the truth is I’m sure there have been a few times where I’ve had to tell someone, “You can’t even tell that they messed up your haircut!” or “Wow, that tattoo came out amazing..”

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

It’s both a positive and a negative, I don’t think I’ll ever reach a point in my work where I’ll be 100% content with where I’m at,I’ll always think that I can improve in some way shape or form however it’s sort of nice to know that I’ll always have something to work for in life.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

There’s a sort of honeymoon phase about 20 minutes after finishing an illustration where I will be proud of it. However, after looking at it a few more times I’ll convince myself that I can do better.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I’m pretty happy with where I’m at, and who I am. If anything I would just like a faster metabolism haha

What is my greatest achievement in work?

I think my biggest achievement so far has been graduating from ArtCenter College of Design and obtaining my bachelor’s degree. I put many sleepless nights, and a lot of hard work into my craft, and I’m glad I was able to see it through with most of my sanity intact.

Where would I most like to live?

I’m open to most locations, but I’d love somewhere a bit colder, rainy, and surrounded by tall trees.

I’m fluent in sarcasm.

It’s technically a city over, but the place that I frequent the most for inspiration, peace of mind, and overall happiness is called Bonelli Park

There’s a little place called The Back Abbey that has amazing burgers and beers.

Those Poor Bastards

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

Haha well they’ve changed over time, I’m not sure who it would really be now but I remember the very first hero I had as a young kid was David Boreanaz playing the role of Angel from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I had serious aspirations of becoming a monster slaying Vampire when I grew up haha

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

Well as cliché as it might sound, I think my real life hero and heroine would have to be my mother and father.  They’ve been entirely selfless in their pursuit to see me achieve my goals, and have done absolutely everything in their power to help me see it through.  I could not have asked for a better pair of role models and everything that I am is because of them.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy
