The Hero’s Journey of Marco Russo

What is the best thing that I love about my work? What I love most of my work is that it is a creative work, you need a lot of inventiveness and that implies I can put something of myself and the result is always different. There is nothing better for me that sitting on my drawing desk with all my working tools and to see what a single white paper can become. Even if I work for hours time flies for me and I don’t get tired.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? I think perfect happiness is when you are free to do whatever you want and I’m happy because I have a beautiful family and my work.
What is my greatest fear? It is to be left alone without anybody also because of my character, I really don’t like to stay alone. Even when I need to do something I’m always happy to be surrounded by people.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I have so many bad traits that if I think of them it is difficult for me to choose one. But my wife says that I exaggerate and I agree.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? I profoundly admire great artists that inspired me to do this work, the most relevant ones are my Teacher Simone Bianchi and also Gabriele dell’Otto. The first time I saw their work I was so impressed that it was then that I decided I wanted to do this job.
What is my greatest extravagance? I am the typical crazy artist, I have 1000 ideas, I talk a lot so the strangest thing is me.
On what occasion would I lie? One thing that everybody knows about me is that I don’t lie even if it is not convenient. I am 100% honest in all my assets and handicaps. As my wife knows, the worse offense you could do to me is calling me a liar.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? When you do the work you like it is as if you don’t have any timetable, especially when you have deadlines it is very common for many artists to work by night but I personally try to be balanced.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? For sure last summer when I collaborated with Simone Bianchi in coloring the backstory of Doctor Doom contained in the first issue of the Fantastic Four. I was very exited!
If I could, what would I change about myself? I would be less exaggerated.
What is my greatest achievement in work? First of all to be able to make a living with my work and then I also have the great satisfaction to have been able to give my contribution to very important projects and artists.
What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? I live in a country where I see many young ones that don’t have the opportunity to realize what they want and in the past, I myself had not the financial freedom to create , that is why I consider it very important.
Where would I most like to live? The United States where comics are considered very important and I also like the different places there and the way they live.
What is my most treasured possession? Materially for sure my mac but if we have to be serious it is the life my wife and I have created together.    What is my most marked characteristic? I’m a big chatterbox and I probably talk even when I sleep!
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? That’s a nice question: for me a city that is really inspirational is Lucca. I live only 15 minutes away from it and I often go there. Moreover this city is known internationally for the Comics. I even imagined Batman jumping around the city roofs of Lucca so I painted this very picture for the last
edition of Lucca Comics.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Probably “November Rain” of Guns N Roses.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I would say Spider man because it is the only superhero that needs to face everyday’s problems. (That is why it is so successful!)
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My father for sure, unfortunately he is not alive anymore but he was a great man because he was a hard worker and he always took care of the family. He was my best supporter since he liked to paint as well.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? The pursuit of happiness.

Where can you see me or my work? You can meet me at the Italian or at some international Comic conventions but most of all on my
website http://www.marcorussoart.com or on social networks.
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I think it is true because passion is a necessity like eating, you can never stop to do it.
Which creative heroes should Peter invite to tell their story? He could ask to one of my dear friend and colleague: Marco Renna.
