The Hero’s Journey in Paris: Present with Confidence

A One-Day Training with Peter de Kuster

Paris | Tuesday, 24 November | Starting at Shakespeare and Company, 37 Rue de la Bûcherie

Do you want to take your presentations to the next level?

The best presentations are not simply about slides, techniques, or tricks. They are about having something worth saying — and having the confidence to make people want to listen.

In this one-day experience, beginning at the legendary Shakespeare and Company bookstore on the Left Bank of Paris, you will discover how to use the power of your story to present with greater confidence, authenticity, and impact.

Because every presentation is a story.

You have a beginning: the moment you enter the room.

You have a challenge: getting people to listen and care.

And you have an ending: what you want your audience to think, feel, or do differently.

Storytelling gives you the structure. Your own story gives you the power.

The Hero’s Journey

The Hero’s Journey is not about becoming louder, more polished, or more like someone else. It is about answering a deeper call: to find your own voice, face the fears that hold it back, and bring it into the room with courage.

In Paris — a city shaped by women who wrote, spoke, created, rebelled, and reimagined the world — you will explore your own journey as a presenter:

  • The call to speak: What do you truly want to say?
  • The threshold: What happens in the moment before you begin?
  • The inner obstacles: Which doubts, beliefs, and fears stand between you and your voice?
  • The allies: Who and what can support you when the pressure rises?
  • The return: How do you bring your story back to your audience — and move them?

What You Will Learn

During the training, you will work on both the inner and outer dimensions of presenting. You will learn how to deal with the tension and uncertainty that can arise when speaking in front of others, while developing the technical and creative skills that make a presentation memorable.

Most importantly, you will learn to find your voice and tell your story in a way that connects with others.

In this training, you will:

  • Explore the barriers that may prevent you from presenting with confidence and conviction
  • Understand where tension in your body comes from and learn how to work with it
  • Discover how posture, voice, pace, and non-verbal communication influence your story
  • Learn how to make your presentation more authentic and congruent
  • Discover how storytelling can make your ideas easier to understand and remember
  • Develop the courage to experiment with new ways of presenting
  • Gain insight into how others experience your presentation
  • Learn how to bring colleagues and audiences with you through the power of your story
  • Develop greater enthusiasm and confidence for presenting

Programme

What story do you tell when you walk into a room?

  • First impression — What story does your audience receive before you even start speaking?
  • Your inner story — What beliefs, doubts, or assumptions hold you back from presenting with confidence?
  • The psychology of presenting — Where does presentation anxiety come from, and how can you work with it rather than fight it?
  • Body, voice, and presence — How do posture, voice, pace, and other non-verbal signals influence the story you tell?
  • Authenticity — How do you make sure that the person your audience sees is really you?
  • Storytelling and structure — How do you turn information into a story that people want to follow?
  • Your story on stage — You create and deliver a short presentation of your own.
  • Practice and feedback — You practise your presentation and receive constructive feedback from the trainer and other participants.
  • The power of your story — You finish the day with a clearer understanding of your own voice, your own story, and how to use both to create greater impact.
