The Hero’s Journey of Marcos Parra González

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The best thing about my job is to be able to create whatever I want that is inside my head, to be able to think of something beautiful and capture it in a photograph. Think about the protagonist of my story, the place where I want it to be, and the clothes to wear.

What is my idea of happiness? My idea of happiness is to achieve peace of mind, photography is changeable, and fashion is aggressive, it is a world where you have to always be present and always giving 100% and sometimes that exhausts a lot.

What is my greatest fear? My biggest fear is not being able to create something that is memorable or remembered.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I consider myself a person who is very accepted as he is, but if I could change a quality that hurts me it would be my hyper-reflection of things, I always think about the reason for everything that happens even though it has no apparent explanation.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? It is a complicated question, because I admire many people according to their work, I think that first I admire Mery Manderley, her temperament and strength make her a superwoman. Minerva Portillo, Mariangeles Miguel, Bruce Weber, Sonia Sabnani … there
are many that I admire.

What is my greatest extravagance? Being a person who is excited about everything, I would say that it is my greatest extravagance.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I dislike the few opportunities that exist and the labor intrusion that exists in the industry.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? When I coordinated the exhibition of fashion photographers at the + Arte Valencia fashion event.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would not change anything, I am who I am because of the defects that I have and I make the decisions that I make because of who I am and that make me follow the path that I am traveling.

What is my greatest achievement in work? My editorial for The Fucking Young where I capture with photography the “role” of man in society.

Where would I most like to live? For work I would like to live in Paris, but to disconnect from the world in Cap Ferret.

What is my most treasured possession? People will say super profound things like a stuffed animal or a diary, but it’s my Iphone.

What is my most marked characteristic? Ephemeral, I don’t know if that’s the word to say that I’m unpredictable.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I am currently living in Bordeaux, but in Valencia my most inspiring place I would say is the Devesa park next to the Albufera.

What books influenced my life and how? Marpessa by Ferdinando Scianna, I taught it for the first time in a class in my photography master and I was amazed by the photographs in that book.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Right now I could not tell you an exact song, but some female soul music voice that relaxes me and makes me remember good times with my friends and family.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Dallas Buyer Club

What role plays art in my life and work? Plays the most important role, without art I think I would not consider myself anything, I am still trying to find the meaning of art, you can look in the dictionary or on the internet, but the meaning of art in an artist is within him.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ mean to me? That I am the only one who can change the direction of my life and become the person I want to be.
